 Transformation

Australian practice Breathe Architecture has transformed the former headquarters of Paramount Pictures in Sydney into a boutique hotel with warm and tactile interiors.
The two buildings were restored and linked together with a two storey extension in a nine year project by local practice Fox Johnston.

The Taste (Home Tour)

Project Details
Client's Name: Mr Mufaddal Kachwala
Category: Residential Project
Location: Nasik, Maharashtra
Principle Designer: Husain Kachwala

Project Concept
As one enters the house, s/he is warmly greeted by a beautiful mixture of elements of nature, granite, laminate and fresh air - all adding to the aesthetic appeal of the house. In this project, AMi has completely balanced nature with modern yet contemporary interior. The use of minimal low height furniture helps to present a relatively free visual field hence creating a strong visual impact. An earthy palette is used to create a warm ambience.

The house sees a classy and modern double-door entry - the doors adorned in an exquisite veneer finish laminate. The outside door has meticulously carved out square holes ensuring perfectly free flow of air through the safety door and the French windows of the living room.

The photographs hold immense importance for the client, & the designer has done total justice, incorporating them within the larger picture. The client's son being a cricketer, he wanted his passion to be clearly reflected throughout the interiors. The cricket bats, therefore, form a unique artefact. The potted plants on the granite table top add a natural element to the space. The 5 frame set on the wall on the left creates a visual impression by their colours & decent placement.

The living room - the harbinger of classy elegance - is spacious and provides ample space for family interaction and allows it to be just the right place to sit back and relax. The Great Mosque of Imam-al-Haakim in Cairo, Egypt, perks up the wall, imparting a very earthy rustic feel to the room. The warm colours & the strategic use of lights to accentuate the decor elements ensure a contemporary feel of the place - making the house a home.

The modest showcase brimming with some antique artifacts, keeping the spirit of the religion alive & its integration with the son's cricket accolades is an eye-catching spot. The back panel of the TV unit is a cube of 16 squares, as if they are the pieces of a broken bark arranged vertically & horizontally; the granite shelf and the multiple drawers is a sleek example of efficient space planning.

AMi emphasises on quality & workmanship, & believes in making a design concept functional, economic, practical & aesthetically pleasing in synchronization with the environment. The firm is looking forward to engaging in designing & execution of residential, commercial & turnkey projects.
